Meet The Team

Dr. L. Wayne Bateman
Dr. Bateman graduated from Cleveland Chiropractic College in 1978, after which he practiced solo until 1990 when his good friend Dr. Albert Gatrost joined him. He has completed over 500 hours of training in the American Chiropractic Association’s Diplomat of Clinical Neurology. He is a member of the Missouri State Chiropractic Association. Wayne and his wife Isabel have been married for more than 40 years and they have two married sons and grandchildren.

 

Dr. Albert L. Gatrost
Dr. Al Gatrost has been partners with Dr. L. Wayne Bateman for over twenty years.  He has a Master’s of Science degree from Central Missouri State University.  Dr. Gatrost graduated from Cleveland Chiropractic College in 1990.  He is board certified in Acupuncture and Meridian Therapy.  He has also taken over 500 hours of the American Chiropractic Association’s Diplomat of Clinical Neurology and completed a Postdoctoral program in Chiropractic Neurology.  Dr. Gatrost is advanced proficiency rated in Activator Methods and he is ACI Board Certified in Auriculotherapy.  Al and his wife Diane have three married children and several grandchildren.  He is an ordained minister in the Restoration Church.

 

Dr. Carlos A. Bateman
Dr. Carlos Bateman joined the practice in 2000 after attending Cleveland Chiropractic College. He graduated Magnum Cum Laude from Missouri Western State College with a Bachelors of Science degree in 1997 and was honored with the John R. Yancey award for outstanding achievement.  In 2012 he graduated from the Spine Research Institute of San Diego’s Whiplash and Brain Injury Traumatology Program.  The program covers the entire spectrum from the physics of motor vehicle crashes to human biomechanics to diagnostics and management.  Dr. Bateman is also a member of the American Chiropractic Association and the Missouri State Chiropractic Association.

 

Dr. Syrece K. Sherman
Dr. Syrece Sherman graduated Summa Cum Laude from Cleveland Chiropractic College in December 2013 and joined Bateman-Gatrost Chiropractic in 2014.  Dr. Sherman is licensed by the state of Missouri.  She is a member of the Missouri State Chiropractic Association, American Chiropractic Association and Foundation for Chiropractic Progress.  She has Advanced Proficiency Rating in Activator Methods adjusting, Graston M1 and M2 Training, FAKTR Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization Certification and Sports Taping in FAKTR and Kinesiotaping.   Her chiropractic technique integrates Activator Adjusting, Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) and exercise therapy to obtain maximal results.  Dr. Sherman enjoys kayaking, gardening, biking and spending time with her husband and son.

 

Dr. Susan Anschutz
Dr. Susan Anschutz graduated from Cleveland Chiropractic College in 2007. Armed with a Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration (UM-Columbia), she entered into solo practice in Lee’s Summit for seven and a half years before joining Bateman-Gatrost in January of 2016. She has completed over 300 hours of continuing education toward a Diplomat from the American Board of Chiropractic Internists and holds a Certification in Functional Medicine from Functional Medicine University. Dr. Anschutz is activator certified and Board Certified in Acupuncture and Meridian Therapy. She is certified in the Neurological Applications of Hyperbaric Medicine from the International Hyperbarics Association and a provider of cold laser therapy for numerous musculoskeletal and neurological pain issues. Dr. Anschutz and her husband, David, have been married over 20 years and have 2 daughters.

 

Jacqueline Kloiber RPT
With 25 years of experience in Physical Therapy, Jackie is licensed in both Missouri and Kansas. She is also a member of the APTA with membership in the Orthopedic Chapter. Jackie has extensive experience treating pediatric through geriatric patients with various diagnoses. Her experience includes; Working in an outpatient surgical unit instructing patients on post-op exercise routines and gait training, Working with developmentally disabled children, Rehabilitation center and long term care work.

 

Betty A. Kunkel LMT, NCTMB
Licensed Massage Therapist
Betty is a 2006 graduate of Kansas City’s Massage Therapy Training Institute and holds certificates in both the 600 hour Massage Therapy and 350 hour Energy Practitioner Programs. She is licensed by the Missouri State Board of Massage Therapists and the National Certification Board of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork. Grounded in basic Swedish massage, Betty integrates various modalities into her bodywork, including Trigger Point Therapy, Deep Tissue massage, Reiki, Energy Balancing and Reflexology. Since joining Bateman-Gatrost Chiropractic in September, 2006 she became certified in Pregnancy Massage. Betty is passionate about what she does and enjoys working with the BGC team, offering massage therapy as an effective compliment to chiropractic care.
